This position is responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations for patients and will ensure all required authorizations have been secured in advance of patient appointments or procedures. This position works closely with the front office, technicians, and medical staff to ensure a positive and productive patient experience.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all required authorizations have been secured in advance of patient appointments or procedures including follow up when required
  • Accurate data entry of surgery demographics/statistics
  • Stays current on insurance changes and provides changes and updates to staff
  • Check in/check out of patients and to schedule follow up appointments if needed
  • Answer phones and route calls and/or take appropriate messages
  • Field triage calls for new and existing patients
  • Collect patient copays and balances
  • Pull and file charts as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a medical office (retina or ophthalmic office a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to use Electronic Medical Records systems
  • Knowledge of insurance industry
  • AA or 2-year technical degree preferred

The regular work hours of this position can be between 7:30am and 6:00pm for an 8-hour scheduled work day which includes an unpaid 1 hour break for lunch. A schedule will be given to the employee to indicate the expected work hours on a given workday.
