Job type confirms the role as an IT professional supporting a hospital's multi-platform computer system environment.
Position PurposeUnder the supervision of the Supervisor, Systems and Data Center, this position provides analysis, installation, implementation, maintenance and modification of auxiliary software products required to support a multi-platform computer system environment and provide technical systems support to the IR staff and users of the hospital's computer systems.
Nature and ScopeThis position is part of a team responsible for the support of a multi-platform environment including IBM Mainframe Z/OS, HP OpenV/Operations, HP-UX, IBM P-Series AIX, IBM i (AS/400) and Windows Intel Servers. Responsibilities include installation, customization, maintenance and integrity of software for automation of computer operations, enterprise job scheduling and electronic report distribution. Oversight of the technical accuracy and completeness of operating systems and vendor-provided software used to support the operational environment.
Major challenges include identifying and resolving problems to ensure efficient operation of computer systems; maintaining software; planning short and long-range software and hardware requirements; implementing new software and hardware. Requires organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while maintaining production stability.
Primary support for IBM AF/Remote Console Automation, HP Open View/Operations Automation software and LRS VPS/Any Queue Report Distribution Software. Provide MS Windows server administration for servers used by supported products. Secondary support for automation and report distribution software on IBM mainframe, HP-UX, or mid-range servers.
Authority to determine/modify operational parameters to ensure efficient performance; request resources and set deadlines. Decisions requiring supervisor input include software/hardware acquisitions, personnel management, policy deviations, financial matters and changes that could impact performance or integrity.
Part of a data center team supporting a 24x7 production environment. Off-hours and weekend work may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of IBM AF/Remote Console Automation software. Specialized training and knowledge of REXX.
- Thorough knowledge of HP Open View/Operations software. Specialized training and knowledge of VB Scripting.
- Thorough knowledge of LRS VPS Any Queue and Page Center Plus software.
- Working knowledge of MS Windows Server 2000/2003 systems administration.
- Working knowledge of IBM Z/OS, HP-UX, AIX, OS/400 or LINUX operating system command and control.
- Working knowledge of command language programming (REXX, CLIST, CL, UNIX Script, VB Script).
- Working knowledge of programming techniques, control language and coding techniques necessary to complete vendor-supplied instructions and guidelines.
- Organization skills and knowledge of project management tools to assist with installation, implementation and maintenance of integrated software products and processes.
- Ability to apply analytical skills and logical reasoning to resolve problems without prolonged or continuous loss of computer production or performance.
- Ability to read and interpret computer documentation, run instructions, hardware operating manuals and user documentation.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently depending on the job situation.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
- Ability to provide training and instruction to peers and users of supported computer programs and processes.

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Must have working-level knowledge of English;
Required: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information or related field. Formal training in operating system fundamentals and troubleshooting. Substitution:
Non-degree technical training with work experience may substitute for up to two years of education.
Experience: Required: three years in computer operations or production control in a mid-range or large system environment; or a combination of three years in computer operations and computer programming in a mid-range or large systems environment. Preference: experience in a large systems environment with IBM Z/OS or HP-UX. Experience with computer operations automation, job scheduling or electronic report distribution software installing and maintenance.
