L2 Data Center Technicians are responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting server issues, coordinating replacement component procurement, managing firmware upgrades, configuring IP addresses, and collaborating with network administrators to maintain system integrity.
Data Center Operations- Diagnose and troubleshoot server issues to identify root causes with remote network or system administrators.
- Coordinate procurement of replacement components, install the parts, and manage return shipment of defective hardware to vendors.
- Perform server firmware upgrades to run the latest approved versions.
- Configure server IP addresses and default access credentials in accordance with standard procedures.
- Collaborate with network administrators to resolve server‑related issues, including cable replacement or re‑routing, optics replacement on server and switch ports, and installation of upgraded hardware components.
- Temporarily rack, stack, and cable servers or switches to enable remote access for configuration and validation activities.
- Provide hands‑on support to network administrators for ad‑hoc requests involving servers or network switches.
- Perform cabling of the server/network device according to approved wiring diagrams and coordinate with network administrators to validate connectivity and operational readiness.
- Conduct physical inspections as requested or audits of servers and components.
- Receive and verify hardware shipments against purchase orders/delivery notes.
- Perform physical inspection of equipment for damage upon arrival.
- Maintain accurate inventory records (asset tagging, tracking, updates).
- Manage spares inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
- Coordinate hardware returns (RMA), dispatch, and logistics tracking.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and documentation of all assets.
- Provide L1 support for incidents and service requests via ticketing tools (e.g., Service Now).
- Perform Basic Troubleshooting (L1 Triage) for server hardware issues and network connectivity (Layer 1 checks).
- Escalate issues to L2/L3 teams with proper logs and updates.
- Act as hands & eyes support for remote engineers.
- Cable reseating.
- Power cycling devices.
- Console access setup.
- Basic hardware replacement (as guided).
- Monitor alerts from DC tools/dashboards.
- Update tickets with accurate troubleshooting steps and status.
- Maintain documentation, asset inventory, and audit records.
- Follow data center security and access protocols.
- Adhere to ESD, safety, and PPE standards.
- Ensure readiness for audits and compliance checks.
- Basic Understanding Of
- Networking fundamentals (IP, switching, patching).
- Server hardware components.
- Fiber & Ethernet cabling.
- Familiarity With
- Ticketing tools (Service Now or similar).
- Basic console tools (SSH, Putty).
- Soft Skills
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to manage physical inventory and logistics tasks.
- Comfortable working in a 24x7 shift environment.
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
