The ideal candidate in this position will be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the operations and staff of an assigned recreation or community services program area. This may include aquatics, indoor recreation centers, member services, special events, youth services, or outdoor recreation and athletics. The position ensures effective service delivery, adherence to policies and safety standards, sound fiscal management, and exceptional customer service.

This is a supervisory-level position responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned recreation programs and facilities. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in program operations, staffing, budgeting, and service delivery, and is accountable for program outcomes.

We currently have one vacancy in the Parks & Recreation Department in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies, which will be filled as they occur.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, supervises, and participates in the operations of assigned recreation or community service programs
  • Develops revenue and program goals, procedures, and service delivery methods; recommends and implements operational improvements.
  • Oversees program budgets; monitors expenditures and revenues; prepares reports and budget recommendations.
  • Oversees initiatives that support member retention, satisfaction, sales, and community engagement across assigned facilities and programs.
  • Coordinates and oversees special events, cultural programs, and recreational activities, including marketing and public outreach.
  • Oversees facility scheduling, program registration, and customer-facing operations to ensure accessibility and service quality.
  • Oversees contracted recreation programs and services; monitors contractor performance and compliance with agreements.
  • Supports fundraising, grant development, and alternative funding efforts; ensures compliance with grant requirements.
  • Monitors operational data and prepares reports related to participation levels, staffing coverage, and program effectiveness.
  • Prepares budgets, monitors expenditures and revenues, and makes adjustments to ensure expectations are met.
  • Responds to and resolves complex or sensitive customer inquiries, complaints, and operational issues.
  • Prepares reports, marketing materials, staff reports, and related documentation.
  • Represents the City with community groups, partner agencies, and stakeholders; builds collaborative relationships.
  • Ensures programs and facilities comply with applicable laws, safety standards, and departmental policies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, public administration, business administration, or related field.

* Each year of additional relevant work experience will substitute for one year of the education requirement.

Work Experience:

  • Four years of experience in the coordination of recreation programs including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility.

License:

  • Valid driver's license
