Juvenile Services Work Program Field Supervisor
Under general direction, is responsible for the transportation, supervision, safety, behavior, and work habits of a group of juveniles participating in the Washoe County Work Program; supervises Work Program Field Supervisors; and performs related duties as required.
This is a Department Promotional only recruitment being conducted to fill anticipated vacancies in Juvenile Services. Only those applicants currently working at Juvenile Services in the classified service for at least six months are eligible to apply. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
In order to be considered for this recruitment, you must be a current employee of the hiring department who has been in a classified status for a minimum of six months.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Work Program Field Supervisor overseeing a work program AND completion of 48 credits from an accredited college or university with course work in behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, social work, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Must be 21 years of age at the time of application. License Or Certificate:
- A valid Nevada Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
- CPR/First Aid certificate is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to supervise, mentor, and support youth and staff in both field and classroom settings.
- Leads by example through professionalism, accountability, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
- Maintains a strong commitment to safety and promotes safe work practices on all worksites and during program activities.
- Effectively manages conflict and utilizes de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe and productive environment.
- Exercises sound judgment and decision-making when responding to youth behavior, safety concerns, and operational challenges.
- Possesses experience supervising youth work crews and maintaining accountability while fostering positive youth development.
- Is comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Effectively facilitates classroom-based programming, discussions, and skill-building activities with youth.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, coworkers, and community partners.
- Maintains accurate documentation, attendance records, worksite reports, incident reports, and other required program records.
- Assists with scheduling, staffing coordination, transportation logistics, and daily program operations.
- Supports the development and maintenance of community partnerships and worksite opportunities.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, crews, and priorities simultaneously.
- Assists with staff training, mentoring, and operational oversight to ensure consistent program delivery.
- Identifies opportunities to improve program effectiveness and operational efficiency while maintaining the mission of juvenile rehabilitation and accountability.
Conditions of Employment:

Candidates must submit to a TB test at own expense upon offer of employment. Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work. Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater. Juvenile Services falls under the direction of the District Court, and as such, Juvenile Services is not a part of Washoe County's merit personnel system, and Juvenile Services employees are not members of a bargaining unit.
However, full-time or part-time permanent employment with the Department of Juvenile Services offers the same attractive benefit package and salary schedule as any other Washoe County Department.
