Division Administrator of Game Management Job Summary

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is recruiting for the Division Administrator of Game Management. The position directly supervises five Wildlife Staff Specialists, three Regional Supervising Biologists, one Chief Pilot, and an administrative assistant, and is responsible for the entire Division staff of 47 FTE positions, including biologists, wildlife staff specialists, pilots, aircraft maintenance specialists, a veterinarian, and supporting seasonal employees.

The Division’s program areas include: avian and terrestrial game species management, wildlife depredation control and compensation, predator management, wildlife health and disease monitoring, and coordination of game‑related habitat and conservation initiatives.

The Division Manager is responsible for the management, protection, research, monitoring, and conservation of wildlife classified as game mammals, upland and migratory game birds, and fur bearing mammals.

Essential Qualifications
  • Seven or more years of applicable experience managing comprehensive programs involving natural resources, conservation or life sciences, with a minimum of three years of experience in game management.
  • Bachelor’s or above degree in a natural science discipline such as wildlife management, conservation biology, zoology or a closely related field preferred, or a combination of experience and education.
Job Duties
  • Plan, develop, and manage game programs; establish and evaluate priorities; coordinate activities between geographic regions, outside agencies and other divisions in the department.
  • Attend and participate in Wildlife Commission meetings.
  • Supervise the staff of supervising biologists, wildlife staff specialists, pilots, veterinarian, and administrative support.
  • Prepare, control, and monitor the division’s budget.
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate legislative proposals related to wildlife laws and regulations.
  • Guide responses to environmental impact statements and other federal land management plans or decisions.
  • Manage the review of proposed projects in the state that may impact wildlife, such as land use, ecosystems, mining impacts, renewable energy, and water development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of wildlife ecology, population management, wildlife health, habitat conservation, wildlife disease surveillance, aviation operations in support of wildlife management, and state and federal laws and regulations governing wildlife resources.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, communication, and decision‑making skills to direct statewide game management, wildlife health, and air operations programs.
  • Ability to evaluate complex biological and operational information; develop and implement management strategies; oversee budgets, personnel, and program priorities; and coordinate with governmental agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Leadership of multidisciplinary teams, addressing emerging wildlife conservation challenges, and representing the department in public, regulatory, and professional forums.
