summary description
under general supervision, is responsible for operating and maintaining production printing systems, dry printing, and computer workflow programs for a variety of duplicating and high-speed copier reproduction projects. Incumbent performs other related duties as required.
essential duties and responsibilities- will operate production printing systems that will reproduce single or multi-color copies of charts, graphs, forms, photographs, printed and similar materials according to the oral instructions or layout and stock specifications on the job order.
- receives and examines job orders to determine copier operating time, quantity to be printed and stock specifications.
- makes ready assigned work area and production printing equipment by such activities as restocking paper supplies, refilling toner, chemicals, and liquids, making appropriate control adjustments, and so forth.
- must be able to operate any computer workflow programs (prisma production or doc setter adobe, microsoft word, microsoft power point, microsoft outlook, and windows explorer).
- runs sample sheet to determine printing defects and corrects defects and/or blocks out undesirable portions. Operates multiple reproductions systems at one time.
- maintains and cleans equipment and image cylinders. Makes minor performance repairs, error codes, paper jams, and adjustments on the machinery.
- required to operate auxiliary equipment, such as collator, addressing, folding, stapling, paper punching, cutting and perforating machines.
- answers telephones and greets walk-in customers.
- takes and verifies job orders, making notes of special instructions and/or unusual specifications.
- maintains accurate job order, work status, and completion records. May prepare cost quotations.
- the incumbent will exercise judgment when making decisions about their assigned projects. Exercise of this type of judgment is essential to ensure completion of the job within established time frames, especially when the supervisor and more experienced staff are unavailable.
- determining the needs of the project, such as the paper type and weight; the outlay; time constraints; and the type of printing machines to utilize.
any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
education: equivalent to a high school diploma.
experience: six months of experience comparable to an offset machine operator i.

- knowledge of reading, writing, basic math, and verbal communications.
- knowledge of computer literate, production printing systems, offset printing, dry-printing, platemaking and copy photography equipment operations and care.
- knowledge of safe working practices and equipment problem solving.
- knowledge of paper weight; types of paper; printing equipment; minor repairs; hand tools.
- knowledge of prisma production or doc setter adobe, microsoft word, microsoft power point, microsoft outlook, and windows explorer.

- skill at operating and adjusting printing reproduction equipment so as to secure neat, clear, and even impressions.
- skill at making minor repairs to reproduction equipment.
