OverviewMust have the technical ability to operate all types of full converting line and finishing equipment within Pregis standards for waste, quality, and productivity. Understands and adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures. Sets up and operates all special functions and capabilities with minimal supervision or direction. Trains other employees when requested or required to do so. Analyses issues, determines, and implements solutions.
Provides innovative and creative solutions for opportunities and improvements.
Under the direction of the VP Operations or Department Supervisor, oversees hourly employees to ensure the production of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost while meeting company standards for quality and performance, customer specifications and delivery requirements in accordance with Pregis policies and procedures.
- Possess and demonstrate developing leadership qualities.
- Use leadership skills to direct press crews in the efficient operation of the company’s machines.
- Read and understand all information on job ticket pertaining to a specific job.
- Ensure that all necessary components to produce the job are present. Does not move forward on any job with conflicting information.
- Fully understand how to achieve print quality and register equipment to produce required quality and can achieve acceptable registration within specified M/R standards.
- Understand all technical aspects of press controls and can set up and operate splicer, gluer, Straub applicators, Label Applicators, rotary cutter, register systems, etc.
- Understand tension controls, and ancillary equipment. Knowledge of how to web up the line, capable of setting glue rollers, changing plates, cylinders, and glue pads. Has the ability to perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
- Perform cleaning as required according to Pregis Standard Operating Procedure 1.01 and as directed by the First operator.
- Fully understand and maintain accurate counts on every job.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to take coaching well and communicate respectfully with others.
- Promote positive teamwork culture.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with team and during shift transition.
- Knowledgeable of safety requirements and guidelines in manufacturing/warehouse environment.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, follow standardized work instructions and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement culture.
- Exposure to moving equipment.
- Humidity may exceed 80%.
- Personal Protective Equipment required.
- Frequent standing, stooping.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs.).
- Occasional typing/keyboarding.
- Full time.
- 12 Hour Shifts.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
