Veterans Guest House (VGH) is searching for an energetic professional to join as our Marketing & Communications Manager. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated self-starter who loves storytelling and community engagement. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a talent for building relationships that excite and inspire.

We’re looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, curiosity, and heart to their work. From pitching news outlets to sharing mission impact and celebrating the donors who make our work possible, you will play a central role in how our community sees and supports us.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Development, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications initiatives that raise VGH’s visibility and inspire the community to get involved. You’ll be part strategist, storyteller, and relationship-builder, working closely with staff, board members, donors, volunteers, and community partners.

No two days will be the same, and that’s part of the fun.

Responsibilities Marketing & Communications
  • Create and lead a marketing plan that brings VGH’s mission, programs, and events to life.
  • Write, edit, and distribute quarterly newsletters, digital content, and press releases.
  • Design and develop marketing collateral, including flyers, brochures, and digital assets.
  • Manage and grow VGH’s social media strategy with compelling, engaging content.
  • Keep our brand voice consistent, warm, and inspirational.
  • Identify and share stories that highlight community need and the real impact of our work.
Fundraising & Events
  • Support cause-marketing volunteers and promote related fundraising events.
  • Help plan and execute fundraising events, in collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • Ensure sponsors feel valued and recognized.
  • Create meaningful donor communications and stewardship materials.
  • Manage event promotion, logistics, and follow-up.
Media & Community Relations
  • Build strong relationships with community partners and supporters.
  • Act as our primary media contact, responding to inquiries and coordinating opportunities.
  • Draft press releases and pitch local media (with mentorship and support).
  • Help position VGH as a charity of choice.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, PR or non-profit fundraising. Agency experience preferred.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, design tools, and CRMs.
  • Experience with event planning and community partnerships is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About Veterans Guest House

Veterans Guest House (VGH) began in response to the growing need for overnight lodging for veterans and their families seeking medical care in the Reno/Sparks area. Today, VGH has expanded its services to include transportation, meals, personal care assistance, and emergency support to ensure veteran families have access to the care they need. Recognizing the limited options available to aging veterans at end of life, in 2025 VGH launched the Cynthia Lake House, a free private home for veterans at end of life.
