Veterans Guest House’s mission is to promote the health of veterans and their families by providing a warm, inviting, temporary home and access to the medical care they need. VGH provides services which include overnight lodging, meals, transportation, post‑operative support, and help with basic needs – all at no cost to the veteran.
Role DescriptionThe Volunteer Coordinator is a full‑time, on‑site role based at the Veterans Guest House in Reno, NV. This position is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and supporting volunteers who assist with guest services, household tasks, events, and community outreach activities. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include organizing volunteer orientations and trainings, maintaining accurate volunteer records, and ensuring clear communication with volunteers and staff. The Volunteer Coordinator will help plan and coordinate service group activities such as meal preparation, hospitality projects, and special events, while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for volunteers and guests.
This role collaborates closely with the Guest House team to align volunteer efforts with organizational needs and goals.
- Demonstrated ability in Volunteer Management and Volunteer Training, including recruiting, onboarding, and coordinating volunteer teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills to build positive relationships with volunteers, guests, staff, and community partners.
- Experience with community outreach, including engaging local organizations, service groups, and partners to support volunteer programs.
- Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects, schedules, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Commitment to serving veterans and their families, with sensitivity to individuals facing health or end‑of‑life challenges.
- Proficiency with basic office software and volunteer management or scheduling tools.
- Prior experience in nonprofit, hospitality house, or social services settings is preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social services, nonprofit management, or a related field is a plus.
