CONGREGATION TEMPLE EMANU-EL Reno, Nevada RABBI / SPIRITUAL LEADER (Part time or Visiting)
Founded in 1921 in Reno, NV, Congregation Temple Emanu-El is a small (90 members) Conservative synagogue and Nevada’s oldest Jewish Congregation. We have a 150+ seat sanctuary, a small Beit Knesset, social hall, library, fully equipped kosher kitchen and three classrooms. We have no mortgage and no operating deficit.
Our congregation is a culturally diverse community with members from Israel, Persia, Russia, South Africa, Turkey as well as throughout the United States. Our members are committed to strong Jewish values, Torah, study, Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael. We have hard working volunteer members – including retired Rabbis – devoted to actively participating in the synagogue by leading services, reading Torah, giving divrei Torah, teaching classes and preparing kiddush.

Part-time (preferred) or visiting Spiritual Leader who is warm, engaging, and collaborative to serve our vibrant small synagogue on a part time basis. The Spiritual Leader will provide spiritual leadership, educational programming, pastoral care and community engagement while inviting member participation in prayer, song, and programming. The ideal candidate will be comfortable connecting with members at every age and stage of life.
- Lead three Saturday morning services each month
- Lead one Friday evening service each month
- Lead High Holiday and other holiday services with others
- Coordinate leading services with ordained and lay members
- Lead adult education and other programming to be determined
- Be available for life cycle events at fees to be determined
The ideal candidate:
- Is creative and uplifting.
- Has educational, programming, organizational, and community development experience and expertise.
- Is able to inspire a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming community
- Has Smicha or is a student working toward it as a Rabbi or Cantor (Smicha is preferred but not a requirement).
Reno, NV is located in the ideal climate of the high desert of Northern Nevada minutes from the beautiful and world-renowned Lake Tahoe and Sierra Nevada Mountains. Reno is ideal for those who enjoy skiing with nine ski resorts within an hour’s drive, hiking and other outdoor activities. Reno is home to University of Nevada, Reno and offers many big city amenities such as theater, opera, museums, and a symphony.
In addition, Nevada has a low cost of living and no state income or estate taxes.
