Registered Nurse (RN) | Labor & Delivery
Location: Reno, NV
Agency: Magnet Medical
Pay: $2,377 per week
Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Start Date: 8/10/2026
Qualified Labor/Delivery RN in Reno, NV (89501).
Key Responsibilities:Pre-Labor and Admission Assessment:
- Assess and monitor pregnant women at various stages of labor, including health histories, vital signs, and physical assessments.
- Perform NSTs, monitor fetal heart tones, and evaluate uterine activity for signs of labor progression.
- Educate patients on labor and delivery processes, pain management options, and what to expect during childbirth.
Labor Support and Monitoring:
- Monitor labor progression via contraction patterns, cervical dilation, fetal heart rate, and maternal vital signs.
- Administer medications, including epidurals, Pitocin, and pain relief options, as prescribed, and monitor their effects.
- Provide continuous emotional support and pain management throughout labor, using comfort measures including positioning, breathing techniques, and encouragement.
- Assist with amniotomy and other procedures as directed.
Assisting with Delivery:
- Assist obstetricians or midwives during vaginal deliveries, providing instrumentation assistance, suctioning, and other necessary actions.
- Participate in cesarean section procedures by ensuring the sterile field, assisting with delivery process, and providing immediate newborn care after birth.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and initial assessment of newborn’s health immediately after delivery.
- Monitor health and recovery of mother and newborn in immediate postpartum period, assessing vital signs, bleeding, and uterine tone.
- Assist with breastfeeding support: teaching latch techniques, positioning, and addressing infant care concerns.
- Provide education on postpartum recovery, self-care, and newborn care.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient progress accurately in the electronic health record.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of labor and delivery processes, including monitoring results.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to plan individualized care.
- Communicate progress, complications, and options to patients and families, ensuring informed consent for procedures.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Follow infection control procedures to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
- Ensure all equipment is properly sterilized and functioning.
Emergency and High‑Risk Situations:
- Recognize signs of complications (fetal distress, preeclampsia, hemorrhage) and initiate interventions or escalation.
- Respond to obstetric emergencies (shoulder dystocia, uterine rupture, neonatal resuscitation) using protocols and teamwork.
- Administer medications and interventions for high-risk pregnancies.
Patient Education and Advocacy:
- Provide education and support regarding labor, delivery options, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
- Advocate for patient preferences and informed decision-making.
