Certified Nurse Assistant

Under the supervision of the unit manager or nurse on duty, as defined by the Nevada State Board of Nursing, this position is responsible for providing or assisting with activities of daily living as well as emotional support to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Direct supervision is provided by the manager or nurse on duty who is periodically available at the site where care is provided to ensure immediate assistance.

This position provides personal hygiene, mobility, safety, and comfort to patients under the direction of a professional nurse. The incumbent must be knowledgeable about the equipment specific to their area of employment and must annually demonstrate proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, CPR, and safe handling of hazardous materials.

Decisions referred to the manager or RN on duty include interpreting orders from the physician, administering medication and IVs, formulating the patient care plan, performing nursing procedures, and resolving any unusual circumstances not covered by current policies or standards of care.

The incumbent must maintain accuracy, communicate effectively with diverse people, function effectively under stress, identify priorities, respond to simultaneous requests, and remain courteous and tactful at all times.

The incumbent assists in procedures to facilitate proper documentation of patient care from pre‑admission to discharge, and must be familiar with standard operating procedures in ancillary departments to schedule diagnostic tests and treatments without conflict. The position is responsible for maintaining unit supplies and interdepartmental communication and may be assigned additional duties as needed.

Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Six months CNA experience preferred.

Valid CA or NV driver’s license and ability to pass Renown Health’s Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria; current auto insurance required.

AHA BLS certification and ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada CNA certification.

Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
