Position Purpose

This position is responsible for streamlining the processes of the nursing unit and ensuring that high operational standards are maintained. The associate nurse manager supports the nurse manager, staff, and patients simultaneously. This position is responsible for various administrative tasks apart from healthcare activities that are necessary for the day‑to‑day operations of the nursing unit, including employee scheduling, recruitment and retention of staff, performance evaluations, financial forecast compliance, supply management, and productivity management.

and Scope

Associate nurse manager responsibilities include leading the nursing department and ensuring patients receive timely care. The individual must support the department and facilitate patient recovery while they are at the facility.

  • Scheduling:
    Prepare schedules for the healthcare team, communicate with providers and nurses regarding patient requirements, and assign duties and shifts.
  • Recruitment:
    Interview candidates applying for nursing positions and evaluate their competency.
  • Monitoring employee performance:
    Conduct performance evaluations, assist with assessment of annual competencies, solicit feedback from patients and staff, and address behavioral or competency issues.
  • Purchasing:
    Ensure supplies are stocked and monitor usage to adjust orders as needed.
  • Resolving departmental and patient issues:
    Work with nurses and patients to resolve queries or issues that may impede care.
  • Budgeting/Forecasting:
    Assist with department budgeting and forecasting, provide expense estimates, recommend cost‑saving measures, and suggest equipment purchases.

Additional responsibilities:
The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families, demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient's age and meeting quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Must have working‑level knowledge of English. BSN or related bachelor’s degree preferred, or pursuit of a bachelor’s degree upon hire.
  • Experience:

    Two years experience as a Staff RN preferred.
  • License:
    Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.
  • Certification:
    Current AHA BLS certification required; professional certification preferred. RNFA program completion may qualify for first assist role.
  • Computer / Typing:
    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and able to use the computer for online learning, forms, policies, benefits enrollment, etc.
