Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Telemetry unit position at a Level II Trauma Center in Reno, NV, requiring a minimum of 2 years of telemetry experience and an active NV RN license prior to start.

Details
  • 38-bed Telemetry unit (T8) in a large, 800-bed acute care hospital environment
  • Patient population includes CHF, alcohol withdrawal, NSTEMIs, sepsis, dysrhythmias, pneumonia, COPD, COVID, post-procedure care (pacemakers, ablations, cath lab), and OHS patients downgraded from ICU
  • Typical patient ratios are 1:4 up to 1:6, determined by patient acuity and workload
  • Non-titratable cardiac medication drips administered (e.g., Cardizem, Lasix, Nitro)
  • CCTs monitor ECG rhythms on all telemetry patients 24/7; ACTs assist with transport, admissions, discharges, IV and Foley insertion, ADLs, and limited medication administration
  • Ancillary support includes Rapid Response Team, phlebotomists, EKG technicians, and Respiratory Therapists
  • 3x12-hour day shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
  • Floating may be required to ICUs (for telemetry/medically appropriate assignments), med/surg units, and a sister facility
  • Epic used for charting; training provided during orientation or candidates may test out
  • KRONOS used for time keeping
  • 13-week contract
Requirements
  • Active NV RN license required prior to start; RNs who have never held a NV temp or permanent license may apply and must begin the application process immediately upon offer
  • Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (APEX)
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience required
  • Must pass a telemetry competency exam, including identifying and measuring rhythm strips
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
  • Provides comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Extremely fast-paced environment serving a 500-mile radius; volume and pace are comparable to a Level 1 trauma center
  • Facility is the only Level II Trauma Center between Sacramento and Salt Lake City, with Stroke accreditation
  • Travelers are required to cover a minimum of 2 major holidays during the contract
  • Travelers are required to pick up one additional shift per 4-week scheduling period
  • Blocked scheduling is not allowed
  • All assignments are 13 weeks in length; no extensions that circumvent the break requirement
  • Travelers who have previously worked at this facility must take a 13-week break after their last contract ends before returning, regardless of how many contracts or extensions were completed
  • Any requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed prior to consideration; time is not added to the end of the contract to compensate for RTO
