The PICU serves as the referral center for critically ill and injured children from Northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe, Tonopah, and communities along the Oregon and Idaho borders. Our nurses care for infants, children and adolescents with complex medical and surgical needs in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary setting.

What makes our PICU unique?

• The only pediatric intensive care unit in the region
• Specialized pediatric services including oncology, pulmonology, nephrology and dialysis
• Care for post-transplant patients locally, while highly specialized cases such as major burns, open-heart surgery and large organ transplants are transferred to centers such as Stanford or Las Vegas
• Collaborative team of intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and pediatric specialists

19 patient rooms | Capacity for 33 patients

Our Pediatric Acute unit is designed to support healing, comfort and family connection. The unit features a playroom, teen room, procedure room and tub room, creating a child-friendly environment that supports both medical care and emotional well-being.

In this role, you will:

• Care for a diverse pediatric population with medical and surgical conditions
• Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, child life specialists and case managers
• Float to NICU and Pediatric ER when needed, gaining valuable cross-service experience
• Help create a safe, engaging and supportive experience for children and their families

This is an ideal opportunity for nurses who enjoy building relationships with patients and families while developing a broad foundation in pediatric nursing.

24/7 care | 15 dedicated pediatric treatment rooms

The Renown Children’s ER is the region’s only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center and the first dedicated pediatric emergency department in the Reno-Tahoe area. Everything—from the child-sized equipment to the colorful, welcoming environment is designed specifically for children.
