The Community Programs Representative supports the SPCA of Northern Nevada’s mission by facilitating our vital community programs that improve pet retention and humane education. This position works directly with the public and their pets who participate in our affordable spay/neuter and vaccine clinics; provides resources to pet guardians; supports our network of foster volunteers; and more!
The SPCA of Northern Nevada’s current programs include: affordable spay/neuter clinic, affordable vaccine clinic, Help Desk phone line, foster program, Trap-Neuter-Return community trap rental, Todd’s Medical Fund, and the Wellness Waggin.
The Right Candidate Is:
- Enthusiastic and supportive of pets AND people.
- Outgoing, patient, professional, and able to navigate high-emotion situations including customers with socioeconomic barriers, language barriers, and differing perspectives. Ability to show compassion and empathize with people is critical. Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers, and community in a professional, pleasant, respectful, courteous, and tactful manner at all times.
- Mature with emotional regulation, good judgment, and demonstrates a professional personal appearance.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment under sometimes tight deadlines.
- A strong problem-solver who can focus on finding solutions to problems and challenges.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office (especially Word, Excel & Outlook). Comfortable learning and using online information systems.
- Able to take initiative to work with minimal supervision and direction.
- Comfortable with and affectionate towards animals, and knowledgeable of animal care and behavior. Experience working with animal welfare organizations is preferred, though we will train the right candidate!
- Comfortable with and able to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies.
- Willing to provide routine medical care to animals including vaccinations, administration of medication, and basic health checks.
- Able to provide a valid Nevada state driver’s license with no record of convictions.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
