Description
Snow sidewalk shoveler responsibilities include applying salt, sand, or de-icing chemicals to surfaces to prevent ice formation or melt existing ice, creating safe pathways for pedestrian passage, and ensuring entrances, exits, ramps, and other critical areas are accessible and safe to use. Work is performed in challenging weather conditions with potentially hazardous equipment, requiring safety awareness and effective communication with supervisors and colleagues.
Responsibilities- Salt and De-Icing - Apply salt, sand, or de-icing chemicals to surfaces to prevent the formation of ice or to melt existing ice, ensuring safer walking conditions.
- Clearing Pathways - Create clear paths wide enough for safe pedestrian passage, ensuring that entrances, exits, ramps, and other critical areas are accessible and safe to use.
- Safety Awareness - Exercise caution and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents while working in challenging weather conditions and using potentially hazardous equipment.
- Communication - Communicate effectively with supervisors, and colleagues regarding the status of snow removal activities, potential hazards, and any issues encountered.
- Record Keeping - Maintain accurate records of work performed, including dates, times, areas cleared, and materials used with the First-Choice service verification app.
- Physical Stamina - Possess the physical stamina and endurance required for prolonged shoveling and labor in cold weather conditions.
- Teamwork - Collaborate with other snow removal team members to ensure efficient and effective snow clearing operations.
- Training - Participate in training sessions related to safe snow operations, equipment handling, and emergency response protocols.
- Sidewalk Laborers often work long shifts, irregular hours, and weekends during snow and ice events. The job requires exposure to cold weather and physical labor. Operators must be comfortable with extended periods of snow shoveling, operating small machinery, and working in outdoor environments.
