At Overwatch, it's more than a job. It's purpose.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented QA/QC Technician with a specialization in electrical systems to join our hyperscale data center project. In this role, you will initially provide critical technical supervision and shadowing of the electrical contractor to ensure all installations strictly adhere to quality, safety, and design specifications. As the project progresses, you will transition into supporting Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning activities, including the Integrated Systems Test (IST).
Data Center experience is strictly required, with previous Hyperscale Data Center experience heavily preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Phase 1:
Construction Quality Assurance & Technical Supervision
- Contractor Shadowing:
Actively shadow and supervise the electrical contractor on-site to validate that all installations are being properly and safely executed. - Quality Control Inspections:
Perform routine inspections of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and industry standards. - Issue Management:
Identify, document, and track installation deficiencies, deviations, or non-conformance reports (NCRs) using project management software.
Commissioning Support (Levels 4 &
5)
- Level 4 Commissioning: Participate in and support Level 4 commissioning activities under the direction of the Commissioning Authority (CxA).
- Level 5 Commissioning (IST): Actively support Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify total data center system reliability and redundancy.
- Documentation: Ensure all QA/QC checklists, test sheets, and commissioning documentation are accurately completed and archived.
- Maintain real-time tracking of quality metrics and construction progress using Procore.
- Review and align field activities with the master project schedule utilizing Microsoft Project.
- Work Week: Monday through Friday.
- Hours: Approximately 8 to 10 hours per day (daily start/end times to be aligned with site construction hours).
- Location: On-site (Data Center Construction Site).
- Data Center Experience: 3-5 years of direct QA/QC or commissioning experience in mission-critical data center environments (Required).
- Hyperscale Experience: 2+ years of experience on a Hyperscale data center build (e.g., AWS, Meta, Google, Microsoft, or equivalent large-scale colocation) is highly preferred and treated as a near non-negotiable asset.
- Education/Licenses: No specific certifications or licenses are required. A background as a Journeyman Electrician, or a degree in Electrical Engineering/Construction Management, is a major plus.
- Electrical Systems: Strong technical understanding of large-scale infrastructure, including MV/LV switch gear, UPS systems, backup generators, and PDUs.
- Commissioning: Familiarity with the data center commissioning framework, specifically executing field checks for Level 4 (Functional Testing) and Level 5 (Integrated Systems Testing / IST).
- Software: Proficient with Procore (for tracking deficiencies, punch lists, and daily logs) and Microsoft Project (for schedule alignment).
- Contractor Oversight: Proven ability to shadow electrical contractors, inspect installation quality (torque, terminations, routing), and enforce project specs.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to collaborate effectively with field contractors and the Commissioning Authority (CxA).
For roles that require on-site presence or travel between work locations as an essential function of the position, candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver's license appropriate for the role and be eligible to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable laws.
