About The Role

The Fire Assay Loader will conduct routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation.

Responsibilities
  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion
  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools
  • Follow up on rush priority workloads
  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard operating procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Maintain and organize departmental inventory (supplies and chemicals)
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete
  • Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with ALS health and safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned
About You
  • Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their digestion volumes and finish methods
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills
  • Organized and highly motivated
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work and time-critical issues
  • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Computer knowledge is an asset
  • Safety oriented
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year laboratory Fire Assay experience in a production-oriented environment, or
  • Diploma or Degree in Science (Chemistry or Chemical Sciences preferred)
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment
  • Clean shaven for respirator use
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 7.5 hours per day
  • Manual dexterity for repetitive tasks
  • Ability to perform general office work as needed (sedentary responsibilities)
