About the Position
As a Fire Assay Technician within the Fire Assay department, your main responsibilities are fluxing, fusion, cupellation, and checking fusion quality to identify deficiencies and initiate re‑assay process under minimum supervision.
Specific Responsibilities- Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion;
- Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;
- Identify different samples and adjust chemical composition of flux to achieve quality fusion proficiently;
- Organize workload according to daily stats and turnaround commitments;
- Follow up on rush priority workloads;
- Effectively liaise within department and branch to communicate safety, quality and operational issues;
- Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;
- Assist with training new employees;
- Maintain and organize departmental inventory, such as supplies and chemicals;
- Follow equipment/work station cleaning and maintenance schedules;
- Ensure storage of hazardous waste in accordance with regulated health & safety procedures;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods;
- Strong analytical and mechanical skills;
- Organized and highly motivated individual;

- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently with minimum supervision;
- Ability to organize workflow and planning to ensure deadlines are met;
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
- Intermediate MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel, Word and Outlook;
- Safety oriented;
- Knowledge of GEMS required.
- Recognized Diploma or Degree in Science required, with a concentration in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences preferred;
- Maintain annual recertification for the disposal of hazardous waste;
- Minimum of 2 years laboratory Fire Assay experience in a production oriented environment required.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs;
- Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment;
- Clean shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator);
- Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours per day;
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
- Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary re
