Temporary - Part-time Research, Physiology and Cell Biology

Job Description

The Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a temporary, hourly Research Technician to support biomedical research focused on the mechanistic basis of neurovascular coupling in health and disease.

• Laboratory administration support: manage lab inventory and ordering of supplies, assist with regulatory compliance (biosafety, IACUC), maintain documentation, SOPs, training records, and onboarding of new lab members.
• Animal colony management: maintain and organize mouse breeding colonies; perform weaning, sexing, and genotyping of transgenic lines; conduct ear notching and tissue collection for genotyping; coordinate sample submission for third‑party genetic analysis; perform euthanasia and tissue harvesting per IACUC protocols.
• Experimental support: assist with in‑vivo and ex‑vivo experiments, support data collection, entry, and basic statistical analysis.

• Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and work with animals.

• Prior research experience with small animal handling or surgical techniques.
• Experience with dissection, microinjections.
• Familiarity with microscopy.

• Grade:
  Temporary.
• Hourly rate:
  Research Exempt grade (Full‑Time Equivalent: 50.0%).
• Schedule:
  
  20 hours per week.
