Produce​/Asst Dept Leader

Sydney store offers opportunity to lead the Produce department in a fast‑paced environment. The role involves managing inventory, ensuring quality, supervising staff, and delivering exceptional customer service.

• Establish and maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return.
• Achieve sales and profit goals for the department and control quality assurance standards.
• Monitor all functions, duties and activities related to the Produce department.
• Respond to customer inquiries, make product suggestions, and locate items.
• Inform customers of produce specials and offer product samples.
• Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, taking appropriate action.
• Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management.
• Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
• Plan and execute the period promotional plan for the department.
• Assist management in preparing the store/department budget, expense control, profit and loss reviews, and taking appropriate action on all financial reports.
• Schedule daily, weekly and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
• Plan and organize the inventory process, maintain awareness of inventory and stocking conditions, note discrepancies, train associates on inventory and Computer Assisted Ordering.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are retained.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, practicing preventive maintenance and reporting any repairs or incidents.
• Report all safety risks or issues, including illegal activity such as robbery, theft or fraud.
• Adhere to all local, state and federal laws and company guidelines.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction).
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Current food handler’s permit upon employment.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Management experience.
• Provide any produce or retail experience.
• Second language skills (speaking, reading, writing).
• Promote trust and respect among associates with a positive attitude.
• Communicate company, department and job‑specific information to associates.
• Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume.
• Train and develop associates on job performance and participate in the performance appraisal process.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
