Our client is an established and growing renewable energy developer, owner, and operator focused on delivering innovative clean energy solutions across North America. They are seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial Director of Business Development to help drive the commercial growth of an emerging energy platform.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will play a key role in developing commercial strategy, building strategic partnerships, identifying new market opportunities, and leading complex infrastructure transactions across North America. This is an ideal opportunity for a commercial leader who enjoys developing new markets, navigating complex energy transactions, and working at the intersection of strategy, infrastructure, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities Commercial Strategy & Cross-Functional Leadership- Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute commercial growth strategies across North America.
- Collaborate with legal, engineering, operations, finance, exploration, and development teams to align business objectives with market opportunities.
- Support regulatory engagement and help shape strategies related to federal and state incentive programs.
- Originate, structure, negotiate, and execute complex commercial agreements, including strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and long-term energy agreements.
- Lead commercial negotiations from opportunity identification through contract execution.
- Develop commercial structures, risk allocation strategies, and partnership frameworks supporting large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
- Partner closely with legal teams while serving as the commercial lead throughout negotiations.
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, infrastructure developers, industrial customers, technology providers, investors, and other strategic partners.
- Identify, qualify, and advance new commercial opportunities that support long-term business growth.
- Develop trusted relationships with C-suite stakeholders across the energy industry.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, commercial opportunities, and market trends to support continued business expansion.
- Bachelor's degree required;
Master's degree preferred. - 10+ years of progressive experience in business development, commercial strategy, project development, energy origination, or infrastructure development.
- Demonstrated success developing strategic partnerships or commercializing new technologies within the energy sector.
- Strong network across renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure, or related energy markets.
- Proven experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and partnering closely with legal teams.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling commercial value propositions.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to lead strategic initiatives from concept through execution.
- Willingness to travel up to 40%.
