About the Opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Level Biologist with experience in natural resource management and biological studies for our Reno, Nevada office. The role combines technical expertise, writing skills, business acumen, and potential for leadership. Responsibilities include writing technical reports, field surveys, natural resource planning, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team. Low travel is anticipated. This is an hourly, on‑call position (no benefits) reporting to the office’s Natural Resources Team Lead.
Hybrid work is available.
Individuals can be hired at three levels:
- Assistant Project Biologist – Typically at least 3 years of relevant experience and expertise.
- Associate Project Biologist – Typically at least 5 years of relevant experience and expertise.
- Project Biologist – Typically at least 7 years of relevant experience and expertise.

What You Will Accomplish- Work closely with project managers and clients to design and oversee projects to completion.
- Implement project requirements related to NEPA, ESA, Clean Water Act, and other natural resource planning/permitting disciplines.
- Write and review environmental documents prepared by yourself and other specialists.
- Provide advice and guidance on complex federal, state and local regulatory issues.
- Help prepare budgets and proposals, conduct business development and client outreach to meet project quality, scheduling, and budget objectives.
- Take initiative, resolve problems, and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.
Required
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field.
- Minimum 3 years of related biological experience.
- Understanding of environmental regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with a logical approach to tasks.
- Robust organizational, analytical, and document management skills, able to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.
Preferred
- 5-7 years of related biological experience.
- Prior planning, budgeting, and scheduling experience.
- Ability to grow into increased management and leadership responsibilities.
- Experience with a major federal government agency that works on natural resources issues.
