Job Overview
The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for a Specialist, Geologic Information position. This role supports the Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library (GBSSRL) by managing and curating physical inventory, coordinating accession of specimens, maps, and documents, and producing detailed metadata.
Responsibilities- Manage and curate physical inventory and coordinate with government and private agencies to accession and curate physical specimens, historic documents, maps, and other data.
- Work with GBSSRL staff and volunteers to create and catalogue high‑quality metadata for each item.
- Collaborate with NBMG employees and state agencies to conduct research, aggregate data, and write technical reports and bulletins that communicate geologic data to the public and industry professionals.
- Engage in outreach activities to educate user groups about available physical and digital datasets and provide customer service support for the GBSSRL.
- Bachelor’s Degree with two (2) years of related work experience, OR Master’s Degree with one (1) year of related work experience.
- Background or coursework in Geology, Geoinformatics, Geography, Library Science, Archival Studies, Museum Curation, or a related field.
- Experience in physical and digital data preservation, and research and technical writing.
- Driver’s license.
- Familiarity with GIS or geospatial datasets.
- Salary range: $70,000 – $80,000 (Administrative Faculty Grade
B), based on experience and qualifications. - Retirement plan with a 19.25% contribution matched by UNR; 100% vested from day one for eligible employees.
