This position is responsible and accountable for ensuring a secure and safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors of Renown Health by overseeing the Security Department and the security functions of Renown Health. The position is responsible for coordinating and reviewing all reports of incidents occurring on Renown Health property. The incumbent must monitor and modify the security program as necessary to ensure Joint Commission and other regulatory standards are met.
The Security Supervisor oversees all security department personnel and the Rescue Team. This position requires leading and teaching Rescue Team members. Performing armed postings to include Rescue Team duties as defined by Renown Health Policy is a key component of this position.
Nature and Scope
The position requires high standards of courtesy; performance, personal appearance, tolerance, and empathy are required. The incumbent is in a position of extremely high visibility to employees, patients, and the general public. This position supervises security department personnel, as well as providing security and protection for patients, visitors, and employees. The Security Supervisor oversees all programs designed to protect all Renown Health properties.
The major challenge to this position is coordinating all security activities and functions, as well as keeping up to date on fire, hazardous material, and other policies and procedures. The position also must ensure proper follow up on reports. This position must be able to use critical thinking skills to interpret policy, to call police and other emergency response agencies, to cite and tow illegally parked vehicles according to policy, to determine how best to deal with a patient or visitor, to evaluate employee performance and to initiate disciplinary action when necessary.
While working the Manager of Security and the HR Business Partner, this incumbent has the authority to discipline, determine standards of performance, assign work, review completed work, grant time off, develop training programs, and provide overall direction and supervision of assigned staff.
The Supervisor of Security will develop and maintain procedures needed to support the Security Department. The Supervisor of Security will develop and oversee the management of both internal and external service contracts were assigned by the Manager of Security. The Security Supervisor will annually review all policies and procedures within the Security Department. Other duties, responsibilities and work outside normal working hours may be required.
Situations not covered by policy or established guidelines must be referred to leadership.
The incumbent must defuse potentially violent situations when possible and contain and control them when it is not. The incumbent ensures that after-hours access to secured areas is available for qualified staff and physicians, that transportation to offsite parking for employees is available as requested and after-hours building checks at remote Renown Health entities are conducted. Additional services are also provided by the Security Department when necessary.
The Security Supervisor is responsible for planning and managing for the Security Department's needs and resources. The incumbent must determine uniform, and equipment needs as well as necessary emergency equipment. The incumbent is responsible for appropriate scheduling of staff and tracking of overtime usage.
Is required to put first the ability to excel at professionalism, exercising restraint to others' errant words and actions, quality decision making, being slow to anger, and understanding that being an armed employee is a tool to accomplishing all other aspects of this position. This nature of this position is quality of character, decision making and implantation of successful decisions.
Having the understanding that the armed requirement for this position is merely a tool utilized to provide quality customer service and successfully perform all Rescue Team duties. Being armed is not the focus of the position, it is a certification requirement.
Acts in the capacity of a Violence Prevention Champion, assists in teaching: employee active shooter protocol, stop-the-bleed process, and workplace violence prevention.
Is responsible for responding to all Rescue Team events as defined by Renown Health Policy, armed calls and armed postings assigned and ensuring the making of reports and maintaining records.
Rescue Officers will rotate into all Security Officer duties in order to maintain their Security Officer skills, facility and unit knowledge base as well as perfecting their guest relations approach.
During nights and weekends, this position will share the responsibility of performing a variety of supervisory functions including any (or a combination of all) of the following: (1) Dispatch, (2) Security (3) Valet Services.
