Campus Security Officer (CSO)
The University of Nevada, Reno is hiring a Campus Security Officer to patrol and protect campus buildings and grounds for the University Police Department – Northern Command. The CSO may be assigned to any UNR affiliated campus including Truckee Meadows Community College, Desert Research Institute, and Western Nevada College.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus buildings and grounds, checking windows, locks, doors, and security systems for damage or breach.
- Monitor State property, displays, and individuals entering and leaving buildings, and take appropriate action according to department policy.
- Respond to security or safety violations and enforce applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Identify and correct safety and security protocol violations or report them.
- Assist with low‑level criminal investigations, including interviewing victims and witnesses, gathering evidence, documenting findings, and preparing reports to aid investigations.
- Maintain visual surveillance through direct observation.
- High school graduate or equivalent education.
- At least two (2) years of public contact work experience that involved applying and implementing rules, regulations, or established policies; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Class "C" driver’s license or higher at the time of appointment.
- Will become certified in CPR, first aid, AED, TASER, handcuffing, baton, and defensive tactics within the first 90 days.
- Ability to walk or stand for extended periods and work in inclement weather.
- Will submit to a pre‑employment controlled substances screening.
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with day or evening shifts. Schedules may change based on organizational needs.
Compensation & Benefits- Classified service under Grade 27; salary determined by Nevada Administrative Code and employee qualifications.
