Overview
The Thermal Field Service Technician is responsible for the startup, commissioning, and scheduled or emergency service on data center cooling systems. This is an entry‑level position that supports more experienced technicians on repairs and preventative maintenance duties. Preventative maintenance duties include taking unit readings and measurements of temperature, voltages, and pressures, controller diagnostics, as well as coil cleaning, filter changes, fluid samples and fluid remediation.
The employee must pass the EPA 608 license within 6 months of hire. Techs will be provided with appropriate training certification as part of ongoing development and must meet the technical requirements of the position through the Vertiv Certification program. The Field Service Technician is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with customers, co‑workers, sales representatives, and others as appropriate.
- Startup, commissioning, and scheduled or emergency service on data center cooling systems.
- Support products and services within the Thermal product family.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities (readings, measurements, diagnostics) and related tasks.
- Assist with repairs under supervision and participate in maintenance duties as directed.
- Experience working with mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals.
- Technical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
- Computer skills and understanding of computer logic.
- HVAC basic understanding preferred, but not required.
- Elementary fix/repair techniques under directed supervision.
- Understanding of psychrometrics.
- Strong mathematical capabilities.
- Ability to work on ladders or at heights and on roofs.
- Have an EPA
608 license or take the EPA 608 license exam and pass within 6 months of hire.
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and handle tools or components; reach with arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear.
- Specific vision requirements include close, distant, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusted focus.
- Frequent driving; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Travel is required.
- Flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- May have on‑call responsibility.
- Valid driver’s license; must be at least 18 years old.
