Job Description & How to Apply Below

Native American Transformer Services, Inc. | Full time

Native American Transformer Services (NTS) is a rapidly growing, Tribally‑owned power transformer service company with a national project footprint. We do the hands‑on, technically demanding work that keeps the power grid running — transformer service, power systems testing, substation commissioning — and we do it with a team of skilled field professionals who take real ownership of their work.

We’re not a staffing agency. We’re not a revolving door. We invest in our people, pay competitively, cover your certifications, and give you a clear path to grow into senior and leadership roles. If you’re a field tech who’s tired of being undervalued, this is worth your five minutes.

The Job

As a Transformer Technician II, you’ll be a lead field contributor on a variety of high‑voltage electrical service projects — working with genuine autonomy, mentoring junior techs, and representing NTS directly with clients. You’ll test, troubleshoot, assemble, and commission power transformers and associated substation equipment at sites across the country.

This is a field role. You’ll travel. You’ll get your hands dirty. And you’ll be well‑compensated for it.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform field testing of transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, and protective relays using Doble, Megger, TTR, and Hi‑Pot equipment
  • Lead or perform transformer assembly, oil processing, de‑gassing, vacuum operations, and pressure testing
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical failures and interpret DGA (dissolved gas analysis) results
  • Lead smaller field crews; mentor and guide Technician I employees on‑site
  • Serve as on‑site safety lead — conduct toolbox talks, enforce LOTO/PPE, and own crew safety outcomes
  • Prepare and finalize client‑facing field test reports and documentation in PowerDB
  • Communicate project status directly with clients, project managers, and engineers
  • Identify follow‑on service opportunities in the field and report to operations leadership
Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of hands‑on experience in power systems testing, transformer service, or substation field work
  • Class A CDL (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • OSHA 30 certification (or willing to obtain within 90 days)
  • Proficiency with standard field test equipment and ability to read electrical schematics independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel 75-80% nationally, including nights, weekends, and 24/7 callouts
  • High school diploma or GED
  • NETA Level II or III certification
  • TWIC card currently held
  • Relay testing experience (SEL, GE, ABB)
  • Prior experience at substations, power plants, or industrial facilities

Pre‑employment drug screening and background check required.

Benefits
  • Pay: $28.00-$38.00/hr based on experience and certifications
  • Overtime: Regularly available — all OT compensated at applicable federal/state rates
  • Per Diem: Provided for all field assignments; travel time compensated; company covers transportation and lodging
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision coverage available after 90 days
  • 401(k): Safe Harbor plan with 4% non‑elective employer contribution — NTS contributes regardless of what you put in
  • PTO & Holidays: Generous paid time off and federal holidays from date of hire
  • Certifications: OSHA 10/30 reimbursed upon completion; CDL training, TWIC, NETA, and OEM training may be reimbursed with approval
  • PPE & Equipment: All required PPE and field equipment provided at no cost from Day 1
  • Career Path: Structured Technician I to II to III ladder with milestone‑based pay increases tied to certifications and demonstrated competency
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 100 feet
  • Work in confined spaces, on uneven terrain, and in all weather conditions
  • Sustained physical activity over extended project assignments
  • Color vision and depth perception required
  • Travel up to 75-80% of the time — this is a field role, not a desk job

NTS is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are proud to be a Tribally‑owned business and are committed to a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
