Position: Airport Police Officer (Lateral)

Description

To perform technical plumbing inspection work in enforcing compliance with plumbing codes, regulations and ordinances; to work with developers, superintendents, and contractors to maintain code requirements and resolve problems relating to code compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with plumbing codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Conduct examination of plans and specifications of new construction, additions and alterations to residential, commercial and industrial buildings to determine compliance with the provisions of plumbing codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Inspect existing buildings and premises for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with plumbing codes and ordinances.
  • Inspect above ground and underground plumbing installations, sewer and water installations, and drain tile.
  • Issue notices to comply concerning plumbing violations; maintain background records for possible legal actions.
  • Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret plumbing requirements and restrictions.
  • Maintain files and reports regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public, real estate agents, bankers, contractors, architects and homeowners regarding plumbing codes and related issues; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Confer with inspectors and personnel from other departments and divisions to ensure consistent code and ordinance enforcement.
  • Prepare correspondence to homeowners, contractors, and others in violation of codes and ordinances.
  • Perform a variety of clerical office duties; issue permits and collect fees.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings, seminars and conferences; stay abreast of changes in the plumbing codes and other pertinent codes and regulations.
Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Experience:

    One year of increasingly responsible plumbing inspection experience involving the full range of inspection duties.
  • Training:
    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the plumbing trades.
License or Certification

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, Level I Plumbing Inspector's certification from the State of North Carolina.

Requirements

Must be able to meet and maintain vehicle insurability with the City of Fayetteville.

Hiring Process

The hiring process is anticipated to last 3 weeks. It will consist of a panel interview and a possible written exercise with the successful candidate subject to a pre‑employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.

The City of Fayetteville Employee Healthcare Benefit Plan provides comprehensive and affordable health and dental coverage while maintaining reasonable costs to employees. Coverage is available for all regular status employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week. Employees may also choose to cover eligible dependents. The premium is deducted on a pre‑tax basis, with the City paying a portion of the premium.

Qualifying employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the month following 30 days of service.

Employer Paid Leave

Paid Vacation:
Employees earn vacation leave beginning the first day of employment; however, they are not eligible to take leave for 6 months. Leave accruals are based upon the number of years of service and the number of hours an employee is scheduled to work.

Paid Holidays:
The City of Fayetteville observes 11 paid holidays per calendar year. The approved holidays are New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, 2 days at Thanksgiving and 2 days at Christmas.
