Overview
The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is recruiting for an HVACR Specialist 1 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department.
Responsibilities- Respond to work orders assigned by the supervisor to university buildings for temperature problems, leaks, smells, and repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair chillers, cooling towers, air conditioning units, fan coils, valves, associated pumps and related cooling equipment, boilers, heat exchangers, hot water pumps, pneumatic and DDC controls, valves and related heated equipment, and perform water treatment services on associated heating and cooling systems and pools.
- Utilize building management software system to analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and systems.
- Perform backup duties for the Central Heat Plant Operator when required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Persons offered employment must submit to a pre‑employment screening for controlled substances (Pursuant to NRS 284.4066).
- Valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license at the time of appointment and as a condition of ongoing employment.
- Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Certification.
- OSHA 10 certification required within one year of employment.
- Walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling.
- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Working with and around hazardous building materials containing asbestos and solvents; frequent lifting, climbing, and moving of heavy objects in awkward or high locations.
- Exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside.
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.
- Typical schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. - May elect an alternative work schedule.
- Designated as Essential Personnel; may be required to report to work without phone/cell notification for emergencies.
- After one year of service, rotation through regular standby duty requiring ability to respond to campus emergencies 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Grade 32. Salary is in grade and step; step determined by the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step
