The OpportunityWe are seeking a Fiber Optic Splicer located in the Reno, NV area to support our operations from the ground floor. This position reports to the Fiber Splicing Manager and offers an excellent opportunity to join an active, well‑funded team, gain valuable experience, and advance your career as GRC grows.
Responsibilities- Work with clients to plan installations, install aerial and underground cabling, and pull cables through conduits.
- Follow blueprints and technical diagrams to ensure correct installation.
- Provide detailed production forecasts and updates to the GRC/Vero project management team.
- Maintain accurate production statuses and statistics in Vero’s proprietary project management platform.
- Troubleshoot problems on existing network lines and provide 24/7 emergency response support.
- Maintain all equipment in good working condition and report any malfunctions.
- Maintain and calibrate splicing equipment and tools.
- Document installations and test results.
- Oversee health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with state, local, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
- Work constructively with permitting agencies, DOT/OSHA inspectors, and other stakeholders.
- Preventive and emergency maintenance of Vero’s network assets in all GRC markets, including utility locates, route drives, damage prevention, and repairs.
- Help customers set up new service, consult with construction crews, and repair or replace faulty equipment.
- Use testing equipment to check the integrity and performance of fiber‑optic cable.
- Diagnose and fix issues related to signal loss or cable damage.
- Maintain proper traffic control and safety while being efficient.
- Education:
Vocational training or an associate’s degree in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field is preferred, but not required. - Previous experience in fiber splicing, telecommunications, or related fields is highly desirable, but not required.
- Driver’s license: A valid driver’s license is required.
- Work ethic:
Eagerness to learn, positive attitude, and commitment to safety and teamwork. - Physical ability:
Able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions, including lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Communication:
Strong basic communication skills (written and verbal). - Problem‑solving:
Desire to learn problem‑solving and organizational skills. - Technical interest:
Interest in construction, telecommunications, or technology. - Basic software:
Familiarity with basic computer applications (e.g., Google Maps, Google Earth, and project management tools) is helpful but not required.
- Hourly range: $20 - $25 per hour, based on experience.
- Schedule:
Day shift Monday – Friday;
Night shift Sunday – Thursday. - Travel requirements: 75‑100%.
- Role openings: 1.
- Target start date: 2‑3 weeks from offer.
