The ideal candidate in this position will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated irrigation systems that support City parks, golf courses, and other public spaces. You’ll work with pumps, valves, controllers, reclaimed water systems, and specialized equipment to keep irrigation systems operating safely and efficiently.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their technical skills, enjoys diagnosing and solving problems, and wants the independence to manage challenging work in the field. You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to irrigation system improvements, upgrades, water-efficiency efforts, and contractor-coordinated projects.

We currently haveone vacancyin the Parks & Recreation Department in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies, which will be filled as they occur.

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems, including pipes, valves, heads, controllers, andbackflow devices.
  • Monitors irrigation system performance; diagnoses and resolves leaks, pressure issues, electrical faults,and equipment failures at assigned parks, golf courses, and other city property.
  • Operates and programs computerized irrigation controllers and weather-based systems to optimize water use.
  • Maintains and repairs pumps, water lines, and reclaimed water systems; ensures compliance with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Reads and interprets plans, specifications, and system maps to perform installations and repairs.
  • Assists with design, layout, and installation of new or upgraded irrigation systems.
  • Coordinates with contractors and inspects work to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Performs utility locates and responds to Underground Service Alert requests.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized tools.
  • Orders and tracks materials, parts, and supplies.
  • Maintains records and updates system maps, plans, and documentation.
  • Trains staff on irrigation systems, equipment use, and safety practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair duties, including some experience involving the use of reclaimed water for irrigation purposes.

License or Certificate:
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid backflow testing certification issued by the AWWA within one year of hire.
