Position: Repair Technician 1 (40 hrs./wk., 260 days)

summary description

the repair technician i is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various equipment used in educational settings, including instruments, electronic devices, cable systems, and photocopiers. Key duties include diagnosing issues, performing routine and preventative maintenance, completing repairs, maintaining service records, and managing parts inventory.

  • perform repairs and routine/preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and materials.
  • maintain a library of technical/repair manuals.
  • prepare and maintain operational records and reports.
  • estimate materials and/or labor costs.
  • use or maintain documentation systems/work orders to track repairs and services.
  • assist or collaborate with other technicians or staff as needed.
  • maintain organization of tools, parts, and work spaces.
  • assist across multiple trades as needed.
  • may perform other duties as assigned.

essential duties and responsibilities
  • perform repairs and routine/preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • diagnose equipment failures/issues.
  • order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and materials.
  • maintain a library of technical/repair manuals.
  • prepare and maintain operational records and reports.
  • estimate materials and/or labor costs.
  • use or maintain documentation systems/work orders to track repairs and services.
  • assist or collaborate with other technicians or staff as needed.
  • maintain organization of tools, parts, and work spaces.
  • assist across multiple trades as needed.
  • may perform other duties as assigned.
when assigned to musical instruments
  • analyze failures and perform repairs specific to musical instruments.
  • track instruments sent out to vendors using electronic programs.
  • maintain work order documentation specific to instrument servicing.
  • communicate and collaborate with with shop personnel, administrators, principals, and teachers.
  • maintain a library specific to instrument repair manuals.
when assigned to electronic cable
  • perform maintenance on educational support equipment (laminators, kilns, , appliances, etc.)
  • conduct cable installation and troubleshooting (coaxial, cat 5, cat
    6).
  • install connectors and trace cable runs using tone signals.
  • assist in maintaining and servicing cctv systems (analog and ip).
  • replace lcd projector lamps. Promethean active panels
  • may perform regulated environmental/safety work, including ahera class iii asbestos disturbance, osha lead remediation, mold remediation.
when assigned to electronic photocopier
  • repair and maintain copiers (including emergency service).
  • diagnose issues using specialized diagnostic tools (multi-meters, thermal tools, logic probes).
  • perform soldering and fabrication of plastic/metal parts.
  • assist with photocopier bid preparation.
  • act as a technical resource/expert for photocopiers.
  • provide training to personnel on copier use and minor repairs.
  • maintain vehicle and assigned equipment.
  • support maintenance of related equipment such as laminators, av equipment, software.
qualifications

any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

education: high school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an apprenticeship program from an approved trade or technical school in the applicable specialty trade preferred.

experience: three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the applicable specialty trade required.

licenses/certificates: possession of a valid nevada state driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the district.

knowledge of competencies for successful performance of job duties
  • principles and practices of preventative maintenance and equipment repair.
  • methods for diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions.
  • operation and repair of musical instruments, photocopiers, and educational support equipment.
  • cable systems (coaxial, cat 5, cat
    6) and signal tracing techniques.
  • use of diagnostic tools (multi-meters, thermal devices, logic probes).
  • basic electronics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
  • inventory control and parts management practices.
  • work order systems and recordkeeping/documentation procedures.
  • interpretation and use of technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
  • safety standards and regulations, including osha and environmental remediation practices (asbestos, lead, mold).
  • basic computer applications (e.g., microsoft office and equipment tracking systems).
