The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting students interested in employment in the Facilities Maintenance Services Department within the Fire, Life, and Safety unit to support the fire extinguisher maintenance program.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Fire Extinguisher Technician with maintenance and inspection activities
- Ride in the service vehicle with the technician while traveling to various campus locations
- Retrieve fire extinguishers from campus buildings and transport them to the service truck or designated maintenance area
- Return serviced extinguishers to their correct locations
- Read and interpret building floor plans to identify extinguisher locations
- Tag or mark extinguisher locations for easy identification and tracking
- Lift and carry fire extinguishers safely to and from the service vehicle
- Operate or ride in a golf cart when necessary to access locations throughout campus, including areas with busy pedestrian traffic
- Exercise caution and follow campus safety procedures when traveling through pedestrian areas
- Follow all safety procedures and instructions provided by the technician
- Provide general assistance as needed to support the campus fire extinguisher maintenance program; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands &
Working Conditions:
- Walking or standing to a significant degree;
- Pushing and/or pulling;
- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Required Qualifications:
- Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno;
- Candidate must be dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented
This position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test. The candidate selected for hire will be required to sign a form acknowledging this policy.
A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The successful candidates must complete the Defensive Driving course shortly after hire.
Driving carts on busy campus roads along with pedestrians is required for this position.
Schedule:
- Hours:
Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:00 am to 3:30 pm - During Semester:
Up to 25 hours a week - During Breaks:
Up to 40 hours a week
Compensation Grade Student Employee Level 2 $ 14/hr.
