summary description
family advocate i provides services to increase parent involvement in their child's education and provides support to staff in their work with children and families to help meet identified needs and goals. The advocate strives to support and meet program goals and objectives in the areas of health, education, parent involvement, and social service referrals. The contribution of the family advocate i supports and maintains the goals and objectives of the family resource center (frc).
essentialduties and responsibilities
- assist families by providing direct service and providing resources and referrals through extensive case management to other needed resources.
- complete data entry and tracking for all client contact and services provided.
- provide cultural and linguistically appropriate information as a trusted community partner on such topics as child abuse awareness and imminent health/safety education.
- engage in outreach activities aimed at specified target populations and link those individuals with materials, direct services, and referrals.
- engage as a parent educator to provide evidenced based curriculum either in a classroom setting or in a home visit setting.
- participate in implementation of a public awareness campaign to raise awareness of potential child abuse or neglect.
- plan, prioritize and participate in providing family intake, need assessments, referrals, follow-up, and other related services.
- recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives.
- establish schedules and methods for providing services/programs.
- implement policies and procedures.
- maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness.
- may assist with the preparation of monthly reports.
- participate in training programs offered in conjunction with the family resources center and other community agencies.
- may perform other duties as assigned.
education/experience: any combination equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
education: high school diploma or equivalent.
experience: one year of progressively responsible office or clerical experience required. Previous experience working with children and families is preferred.
licenses/certificates: possession of or ability to obtain a valid nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the district.
competencies for successful performance of job dutiesknowledge of:
- child development/infant care.
- educational and community resources to support students and families.
skill in:
- basic computer and data entry skills.
- interpersonal communication both orally and in writing.
- effectively managing schedules and setting goals.
- bilingual skills are desirable.
ability to:
- engage with families with diverse and changing needs.
- practice awareness and sensitivity when working with students and families.
- collaborate with various stakeholders including teachers, staff, students, parents, and community partners.
