Position: SEASONAL LIFEGUARD

Job Overview

Under general supervision, enforces water safety regulations and ensures the safety of swimmers at a Washoe County swimming facility, promoting patron health, enjoyment, and safety; and performs related work as required.

This recruitment is being conducted to fill a current non-benefitted seasonal vacancy in the Community Services Department – Regional Parks and Open Space Division. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Seasonal Positions are full or part-time and last no longer than 6 months.

Location and Schedule

Location: Bowers Mansion Pool

Weekend and evening shifts may be required.

Requirements

Must be at least 15 years of age at the time of application.

Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the ability to acquire the certification requirements listed below.

Certification Requirements

Current certifications in Lifeguard Training, First Aid Basics, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer are required within two weeks of appointment. Required certifications must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

Background and Reference Checks

Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.

Residency

Requirement

Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Employment Status

This is not a classified position and is not covered by a collective bargaining unit. “Seasonal hourly employee” means the position is not to exceed six (6) months. Seasonal Hourly employees are “at will” employees and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Retired PERS Information

Retired PERS (Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada) employees are responsible for contacting PERS to make sure that they do not go over the assigned PERS earnings limit for a fiscal year in order to retain retirement benefits. PERS phone number is  to check for yearly updates.
