Summary Description
Under general direction of assigned yard Transportation Site Manager, assigns vehicles, drivers, and pupil transportation assistants (PTAs). Processes time off requests for assigned yard. Maintains lists, reports of assigned yard employees, and ensures that all positions are covered for the day. Receives and documents all call offs for assigned yard daily. Opens assigned yard offices daily. Operates as a liaison between yard bus staff and yard shop staff daily.
Maintains professional demeanor and appearance for the drivers and staff. Performs other related duties as required.
- Daily Dispatch & Operations Coordination
- Assign operational school buses, drivers, and pupil transportation assistants (PTAs) daily.
- Determine driver and vehicle fitness for safe route assignment.
- Assign standby drivers, standby PTAs, and on‑call drivers as needed.
- Ensure all routes and operational positions are staffed each day.
- Troubleshoot routing issues and reroute drivers to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Coordinate daily with other transportation yards for staffing and equipment support.
- Assist with field trip transportation assignments in coordination with the Excursions Division and Site Managers.
- Assist in coordinating and supporting daily dispatch operations with district and external partners.
- Assist Dispatch Supervisor and Site Manager with oversight of day‑to‑day dispatch operations.
- Communication & Dispatch Systems
- Communicate with drivers using multi‑channel two‑way radio systems.
- Utilize dispatch, routing, and transportation software systems to support operations.
- Update communication systems and reader boards daily.
- Prepare and send notifications to parents and staff regarding delays or service changes.
- Serve as a liaison between yard staff, shop staff, school sites, and transportation programs.
- Respond to public and community concerns regarding transportation services and safety.
- Staffing, Attendance, and Timekeeping Coordination
- Maintain daily driver sign‑in sheets and attendance records.
- Track, record, and process call‑offs, time‑off requests, and early‑out requests.
- Maintain time‑off calendars and ensure compliance with department guidelines.
- Assist in verifying driver work hours, overtime, and leave usage.
- Maintain records of standby staff availability and assignments.
- Oversee and coordinate standby staff work assignments and related issues.
- Safety, Compliance & Incident Management
- Ensure drivers follow safety and pre‑trip inspection procedures.
- Monitor operational compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Document and report incidents, safety concerns, and policy violations.
- Read, interpret, and apply district policies and procedures.
- Records Management & Administrative Support
- Maintain transportation records, logs, reports, and documentation.
- Create and maintain schedules, reports, forms, and operational records.
- Assist with confidential personnel and operational documentation.
- Perform general clerical duties including filing and answering phones.
- Collect and analyze operational data to improve efficiency.
- Evaluate dispatch activity, radio usage, and staffing efficiency.
- Analyze standby staff utilization for cost‑effectiveness.
- Provide data insights to support operational decision‑making.
- Training, Support & Staff Development
- Assist in training drivers, dispatch staff, and stakeholders on transportation systems.
- Provide guidance and support to standby staff.
- Assist in interviewing and evaluating standby employees.
- Support ongoing training initiatives for dispatch personnel and operational staff.
- Equipment & Systems Support
- Assist in evaluating dispatch and communication equipment.
- Support implementation and improvement of communication systems and tools.
- Drive bus routes as needed.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and work environment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Two years of experience in an educational transportation environment or public safety environment.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid State of Nevada Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, current CPR certification,…
