Maintenance Helper-Temporary

The Maintenance and Operations Fleet Division is seeking a Maintenance Helper to work up to 17.5 hours per week to assist in the transport of fleet vehicles between City and vendor locations. Other responsibilities include picking up parts at various shops, cleaning the shop, assisting with stocking inventory, and taking inventory counts.

This is a temporary, non‑benefited, part‑time position, up to 17.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (not to exceed 233 hours per quarter and 1039 hours in the fiscal year). There are no benefits offered for this position.

• Transport vehicles between fleet, other City locations, and outside vendors.
• Pick‑up and delivery of parts to fleet shop and/or other City locations.
• Maintenance and cleaning of fleet shop, including sweeping floors, emptying trash, and other related tasks.
• Assist with stocking inventory and taking inventory counts.

Proper procedures used in the maintenance and cleaning of the fleet shop.

Previous experience in inventory control is desired.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record. A Class M license is desired.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; walk, stand, sit for prolonged periods; frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive hand movements; lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and verbally communicate to exchange information.

Outdoor field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, solvents, potentially hazardous chemicals, gases, all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.
