City Carrier Assistants deliver and collect mail on foot or by vehicle under varying road and weather conditions in a prescribed area; they maintain customer service with customers and others, and possess general familiarity with postal laws, regulations, products, and procedures commonly used, plus knowledge of the area geography. The position is a 360‑day term with possibility of reappointment and may lead to a career position.

• Two (2) years of driving experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum age 18 years.
• Successful completion and passing score on Postal Service Test 473.
• Valid Driver's License; DMV printout if selected for hire.
• Great attention to detail.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach; handle heavy containers of mail up to 70 pounds.
• Compliance with strict grooming standards.
• Compliance with strict accuracy/honesty standards.
• Customer service skills.
• Ability to provide I‑9 documentation.
• Employer conducts pre‑employment drug screening and background check.

• Route or case all classes of mail in sequence of delivery along an established route, rearranging and re‑labeling as required.
• Withdraw mail from the distribution case and prepare it in sequence for efficient delivery independently or by another carrier.
• Prepare and separate all classes of mail to be carried by truck to relay boxes along route for subsequent delivery.
• Handle undeliverable mail in accordance with established procedures.
• Deliver mail along a prescribed route, on foot or by vehicle, on a regular schedule, picking up additional mail from relay boxes as needed.
• Collect mail from street letter boxes and accept letters from customers; on certain routes may deliver mail that consists exclusively of parcel post, or the collection of mail.
