The General and International Collections Directorate is offering a 120-day opportunity for a qualified individual at the GS-12 grade level to serve on a full-time temporary promotion to the GS-13 level, OR a qualified individual at the GS-13 level (no promotion) to serve on a full-time detail as Special Assistant for General and International Collections. The Special Assistant will provide administrative support to the Director for the General and International Collections Directorate, Eugene Flanagan.
The Special Assistant provides administrative, operational, technical, and program support, with minimal supervision, to advance GICD responsibilities within LCSG on a wide variety of topics. The Special Assistant exercises initiative, judgment, tact, and flexibility and maintains confidentiality in meeting the administrative and planning needs of GICD management, staff, and other LCSG and Library units as involved.
Specifically, the incumbent will:
- Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support for the GICD Director, including managing appointments, coordinating task completion, taking meeting notes, and arranging travel.
- Support communications within the GICD divisions by drafting messages, updating contact lists, and arranging for virtual and in-person meetings. Manage various task workflows to ensure that GICD meets deadlines, responds to requests, and are prepared for meetings, briefings, and events.
- Serve as GICD’s directional planning liaison by reporting, tracking, and supporting GICD’s strategic goals and programmatic initiatives including researcher experiences, young audience engagement, and digital collections strategy.
- Track personnel-related requests, such as for hiring, performance management, and performance-related awards, and initiate processes as requested, coordinating with other LCSG units to fulfill requests.
- Coordinate with division chiefs, administrative specialists, and other GICD division staff to research, gather, and compile information on a variety of programs for briefing materials, talking points, annual or quarterly reports, and statistics.
- Collect, synthesize, and review data and information for accuracy, to be used in the drafting of written materials in various formats (documents, presentations, online collaboration tools).
- Proceed in a confidential manner with respect to any management decisions while working collaboratively with chiefs, managers, and staff across GICD.
- Initiate, establish, and maintain professional relationships with other service unit confidential and special assistants, administrative officers, supervisors, and staff throughout LCSG and the Library to share resources, information and effectively serve GICD.

This opportunity is open to LC permanent and indefinite staff who have permission from their supervisor.
Work Schedule
:
Flextime schedule, with telework of up to four days per pay period, with desired onsite schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
