Position: Campus Relief Teacher (Long-Term Substitute)

Center City Public Charter Schools (Center City PCS) empower our students for lifelong success by building strong character, promoting academic excellence, and generating public service throughout Washington, D.C. Center City staff are teachers, mentors, and leaders, and they play an important role in ensuring each of our students maximize their potential.

Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses, located across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver meaningful instruction in and outside the general education classroom when core teachers are not present that aligns with grade-level Common Core standards
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
  • Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
  • Work collaboratively with general and special education teachers to plan and deliver general education curriculum
  • Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLCs, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus-based grade-level planning sessions
  • Follow school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
  • Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hours

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
  • General knowledge of several subjects
  • Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
  • Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
  • Patience
  • References that reflect high standing with a past employer
