Adjunct Culinary Instructor
We are seeking an enthusiastic Adjunct Culinary Instructor to join our Culinary Arts program at Renton Technical College. In this part-time role, you will provide comprehensive instruction in various culinary subjects, promoting an equitable and supportive learning environment. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as needs arise within each department. Deans will evaluate applications periodically and contact candidates as adjunct positions become available.

- Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes from diverse student populations especially underrepresented and underserved student populations.
- Demonstrating multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and creating an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Deliver theoretical and practical instruction covering culinary techniques, terminology, equipment, regulations, safety, and sanitation.
- Plan and oversee student work in kitchen settings to develop competencies outlined in the curriculum.
- Conduct in-class demonstrations and model proper culinary techniques.
- Evaluate student learning through assessments, exams, and practical exercises.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
- Uphold program policies regarding sanitation, attendance, dress code, and personal appearance.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership or participating in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent professional experience in the culinary industry.
- Extensive knowledge of culinary theory, techniques, food safety, and sanitation principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse student body.
- Ability to obtain a food handler's permit and CPR/First Aid certification.
- Passion for teaching and fostering student growth in the culinary field.
In the interest of providing a healthy, safe and secure educational and work environment, and in order to meet the requirements of federal legislation, it is the policy of Renton Technical College to maintain an alcohol and drug-free workplace for our employees and students.
This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. All guided practice instructional credits for adjunct will be paid with an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Degree Stipend:
Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid on a prorated per credit rate.
The person hired is required to provide authorization for employment in the United States. All offers of employment are contingent to background checks, including employment and required degree/credential verification. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform successfully in the position. Finalists are required to complete the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure form as required under RCW .
