Position: "On-the-Job" High School Completion Instructor / Part-Time

Job Overview

Join our team at Renton Technical College as an On‑the‑Job High School Completion Instructor. The role supports our ‘On‑the‑Job’ High School Completion model, allowing students to earn high‑school credit while participating in workforce training, employment, apprenticeships, or other career‑connected learning opportunities. The instructor will support, evaluate, and document student learning connected to workplace training and industry‑aligned skill development. Responsibilities include collaboration with employers, workforce training providers, and community partners to align instruction, monitor student progress, and support credit attainment toward a high‑school diploma.

Reporting directly to the Dean and/or Associate Dean of College & Career Pathways, the instructor is responsible for providing individualized and/or group instruction for adults with a wide range of academic, workforce, and career goals.

This is an ABE (Adult Basic Education) adjunct faculty teaching position. The schedule of hours and dates may vary and will be established based upon assignment. Teaching assignments will include off‑site, online, hybrid, and community‑embedded instruction.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for under‑represented student populations.
  • Develop contextualized curriculum and alternative delivery methods and strive to create a positive learning environment for students using diverse teaching methods to support and enhance student success.
  • Assist in developing, assessing and analyzing program outcomes for the purpose of program improvement and enhanced student learning.
  • Assess, monitor, and document student performance.
  • Advise students in meeting their educational goals; complete required paperwork and submit required attendance.
  • Maintain student records such as grades using the Canvas learning management system.
  • Attend scheduled College & Career Pathways department and team meetings as appropriate.
  • Fulfill part‑time faculty responsibilities in accordance with the negotiated agreement and College policies.
  • Support the College's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.
  • Effectively teach the adopted curriculum for ABE.
  • Develop curriculum and assessment methods to include individual assignments, group projects, quizzes and exams.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.

    Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, religious, gender, socio‑economic, ability, and educational backgrounds, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Adult Education, Human Services, Workforce Development, or a related field, and one year or more of experience working with adult learners, opportunity youth, workforce training programs, or high‑school completion populations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with workforce development, community‑based organizations, apprenticeship or training programs, and/or employer‑based learning environments.
  • Ability to coordinate with employers, workforce training providers, community organizations, and internal college departments to support student success and program implementation.
  • Experience assessing student progress, documenting learning outcomes, and supporting competency‑or credit‑based educational models.
  • Ability to design engaging, interactive, and culturally responsive learning experiences for adult learners.
  • Ability to work effectively with students whose first language is not English and with students from varied educational and employment backgrounds.
