About the Position
Renton Technical College (RTC) is seeking a dedicated adjunct faculty member to support adult learners through the I‑BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) model. The role involves co‑teaching in professional‑technical programs alongside content‑area instructors, integrating basic skills instruction—reading, writing, math, and English language acquisition—into workforce training courses. Instruction is delivered in both English and Spanish to support bilingual students in achieving academic and career success.
This part‑time faculty position is flexible, with teaching assignments varying by quarter and including face‑to‑face, online (synchronous/asynchronous), hybrid, and flexibility modalities. Faculty report directly to the Dean of College & Career Pathways.
Responsibilities- Effectively teach the curriculum for assigned courses in Spanish, aligned with College & Career Pathways (CCP) and professional‑technical program goals.
- Collaborate with professional‑technical faculty to deliver integrated instruction that supports program outcomes.
- Provide contextualized support in reading, writing, math, and/or English language skills within professional‑technical program curriculum.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and student needs.
- Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and performance using college systems (e.g., Canvas, LACES).
- Participate in team meetings, professional development activities, and curriculum planning.
- Support students in setting and achieving academic and career goals.
- Foster an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments and outside agencies.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.
- Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio‑economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Bachelor's degree in education, adult basic education, TESOL, or a closely related field. Master's degree is preferred.
- Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
- Experience teaching adult learners in basic skills, GED, ELA, or high school completion programs is preferred.
- Experience with I‑Best, co‑teaching models, competency‑based instruction, and contextualized learning is preferred.
- Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification is preferred.
- Proficiency with Canvas LMS and LACES is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
Working hours and location vary by teaching assignment and may include daytime, evening, or weekend work. Work is mostly sedentary in an office environment, with frequent computer use and exposure to terminal screens. Some travel to trainings, conferences, or college events may be required.
Compensation and BenefitsAdjunct faculty are contracted on a quarterly basis. Lecture (theory) credits are compensated at $1,090 per credit, which includes scheduled class time and final exam days. Guided practice instructional credits receive an additional pay factor of 1.33. Future advancement up to the current maximum of $1,640 per credit is based on years of service and professional development activity.
