Job Description
The City of Renton Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting a Recreation Leader 4 to support After School and Teen Programs at the Highlands Neighborhood Center. The position supports youth and teen recreation opportunities including the STREAM After School Program, Youth Council Meetings, Volunteer Projects, Family Engagement Events, and Evening Recreation Activities.
As a Recreation Leader 4, you will assist the Recreation Coordinator and other City staff with planning, preparing, and implementing engaging recreational and enrichment opportunities for youth and teens. Activities may include STREAM-based instruction, leadership development, games, arts and crafts, special events, volunteer projects, family nights, community-building activities, program set‑up, take‑down, facility security, transportation of participants, and general cleaning.
This is an ongoing supplemental position with a short-term schedule of up to 40 hours per week during the fall season (September – December), transitioning to a reduced part‑time schedule in 2027 based on program needs.
Hourly Rate: $29.00 per hour
Schedule: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday‑Friday

- Experience facilitating youth leadership or teen engagement programs
- Knowledge of recreational programming, behavior management, and positive youth development practices
- Ability to safely operate City vehicles for participant transportation
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe

Essential Functions- Support planning, preparation, and implementation of youth and teen programs with the Recreation Coordinator and City staff
- Provide daily activity oversight for the STREAM After School Program
- Facilitate and support bi‑monthly Renton Youth Council meetings
- Assist in planning and execution of volunteer projects, family and kids‑night events, teen engagement activities, and community programs
- Transport participants for after‑school programming, field trips, and program activities as assigned
- Lead, instruct, and engage participants using citizenship, leadership, inclusivity, and sportsmanship principles
- Help participants build social skills, leadership abilities, teamwork, and self‑confidence through recreational programming
- Explain and uphold program and facility expectations, rules, policies, and procedures
- Maintain safety standards and enforce rules and procedures
- Report participant behavioral problems, incidents, or safety concerns to appropriate staff and supervisors
- Maintain attendance records, activity reports, transportation logs, and facility documentation as required
- Provide a positive attitude toward participants, families, volunteers, and staff; serve as a positive role model
- Assist with coordination and support of volunteers and supplemental staff as assigned
- Support evening activities and operations at the Highlands Neighborhood Center
- Ensure proper care, cleaning, and storage of equipment, vehicles, and supplies
- Keep program areas tidy, organized, safe, and welcoming to participants and patrons
- Maintain communication with staff, participants, parents/guardians, and community partners as needed
