Job SummaryThis 3-year Special Duty opportunity is open to current Wastewater Treatment Division Senior Operators, Local SEIU 925 Members, and aims to fill a Special Duty Assignment position for up to three years. The successful candidate will serve as Senior Operator in Charge (SOIC) in East Offsite Operations, leading a crew and supporting the planning, scheduling, and operation of critical infrastructure that produces high-quality treatment of wastewater collected from local sewer agencies.
Responsibilities- Operate, monitor, and control wastewater treatment equipment using manual operations or complex computerized systems.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and direct a crew’s daily work and assigned treatment processes or capital projects.
- Provide technical expertise to operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment, odor control equipment, and collection/conveyance systems.
- Communicate clearly with the public, team members, and other King County work groups.
- Assume full operational responsibilities when the supervisor is unavailable.
- Serve as the project coordinator on off-site capital and special projects, working closely with the East Offsite Capital Projects Liaison Supervisor.
- Review, comment, and engage on project materials and meetings to support continuous operations.
- Coordinate on-site responses to unusual occurrences and emergencies.
- Assist in purchasing supplies and equipment, maintain inventory, and provide data for budget forecasting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Advanced experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting offsite pump stations.
- Experience leading as a technical resource on offsite capital projects.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Teams, One Note, and other technical tools.
- Ability to work a rotating on-call schedule, including holidays.
- Ability to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions.
- Physical strength to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds and to work in confined spaces, climb tanks, and tolerate noxious odors, heat, and high noise levels.
- Valid, unencumbered Washington State Driver’s License.
- Washington State Group III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification (or out-of-state equivalency converted within one year).
- CPR and first aid certification or ability to obtain one within the first few months.
- 5 years of plant experience.
- At least three years in a training position.
- Two years as a Senior Operator.
Work Location:
South Treatment Plant – 1200 Monster Rd SW, Renton, WA 98057. Must reside in Washington state and within reasonable distance to the King County worksite.
Work Schedule:
4/10 or 5/8, overtime eligible, with all shift schedules, report in adverse weather, and on a rotating call list.
