Position Type: 6 Months Contract - potential Contract to Hire / Contract Extension based on performance
Hourly Rate: $60 - $65 / hour W2
ABOUT OUR CLIENT / ABOUT THIS ROLEMedix is currently seeking an experienced Network Engineer with prior Palo Alto Firewall Migration experience. Our client is a national Healthcare Services organization with more than 2500 sites, currently in the middle of a project to replace End of Life Cisco and Checkpoint firewalls with next-generation Palo Alto Firewalls. This role is an additional position to help support the workload.
We are seeking individuals who have a minimum of 5-7 years Network Engineering (strong Layer 2 / Layer 3 switching configurations), and who have hands‑on experience in migrating, deploying and decommissioning firewalls.
RESPONSIBILITIES- This role is primarily remote but may include up to 25% travel out of state / overnight to client locations
- Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer to support firewall migration / firewall deployment projects
- Day to day will primarily be focused on Network Configuration and Deployment (80%) with some troubleshooting and support (< 20%)
- Implementing new Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls with Panorama Management to replace EOL Cisco ASA and Checkpoint devices.
- Core responsibilities will be to configure the Palo Alto settings, VPNs and Switch configurations for deployment at new sites.
- This individual will be tasked with understanding architecture designs, ordering equipment, tracking shipments, and ensuring timely delivery for installation.
- Strong Palo Alto firewall skills are required - must be able to troubleshoot, program, and set up firewalls, including setting up VPNs, and migrate existing firewall rules over to the new devices.
- This role will be traveling to the new sites for hands‑on deployment and decommissioning assistance with existing firewalls.
- This role will also be providing technical troubleshooting and support for connectivity issues within the AWS and Azure multi‑cloud environment
- This individual is responsible for using monitoring tools (ie, Solarwinds) for monitoring and assessing network performance, as well as ticketing tools (Service Now) to stay on top of issues.
- 7-10+ years of professional experience
- Network Certifications (Cisco CCNA or Palo Alto PCNSA) are preferred
- Strong hands‑on experience with Palo Alto Next Generation Firewalls and Panorama
- Exposure to legacy firewalls to help support migrations (ASA / Checkpoint)
- Cisco Nexus Switches
- VLAN configuration
