Position Summary
JMT’s Washington, D.C. office is seeking a Water Resources Design Engineer with 0–4 years of related design experience. The role involves engineering design using general engineering principles to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. The position is located in the office and supports a hybrid work and home schedule.
Compensation: $38.00–50.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications. The range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, field notes, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
- Perform storm drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control design, and related computations
- Conduct watershed studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and design/inspect traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
- Develop construction cost estimates
- Assist in preparing engineering documents for advertisement and construction, including engineering drawings, exhibits, and reports
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and within established quality standards
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET‑accredited engineering program
- 0–4 years of related internship, co‑op, or full‑time work experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification
- Experience with in a professional water resources engineering environment
- Proficiency in discipline‑specific design software (TR‑55, TR‑20, HY‑8, Flow Master, and/or HEC‑RAS)
- Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
- Experience in industry standard CAD software
- Experience using Microsoft Office
- Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time with a sedentary nature; occasional standing and walking may be required.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, or other factors in the office.
- Field work is required on occasion where conditions may include heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid environments. Some lifting (up to 25lb.) may be required as needed.
